The road between Oakerthorpe and South Wingfield Church is closed for gas main works. The signed diversion takes you on a 10 mile (approx) detour! These are shorter non-signed routes from Neil:

If approaching from Chesterfield via the A61:
    1) When you get to Higham, go past the Greyhound (on the left) and take the next RIGHT when the main road bends sharp left.
    2) When you reach the hamlet of 'Toadhole Furnace', as you go down the hill and bend left, turn RIGHT in front of the Amber Hotel.
    3) At the end of the road, turn LEFT and in approx 100 yards turn RIGHT.
    4) Go along this road for approx 1 mile to the end and turn LEFT an LEFT again (it's almost a 'U' turn) down through the cutting.
    5) The Church and car park is on the LEFT in about 1 mile.

If approaching from the M1 junction 28:
    1) Take the A38 towards Derby, come off this road at the 3rd exit (signed Alfreton A61).
    2) At the roundabout above the A38 take the 3rd exit (A61) AND KEEP IN THE LEFT LANE, this will filter you off onto the A615 signed for Matlock.
    3) Follow this road for approx 1/2 mile and turn RIGHT at the traffic lights.
    4) In a couple of hundred yards filter LEFT keeping on the A615.
    5) Go down the hill and under the railway bridge and turn LEFT in 100 yards.
    6) You are now on 4) above.

75years ago, bell ringing in the UK had been heavily curtailed becauseof the war and thethreatof invasion. On the 8th May, that all ended with the surrender of theGerman forces. 75 years later, we will be celebrating thisanniversary, and all towers (where possible) have been asked to Ringout for Peace at 7pm on the 8thMay.

Notall towers will be able to do so at this time, as they may not havesufficient ringers available. However, with some careful management,it should be possible for all the towers in the ChesterfieldDistrict, which are able to be rung, to do so at least once duringthe weekend of 8th-10th May.
